The immensely talented French composer Lili Boulanger was the first woman to receive the coveted Prix de Rome for composition—at the age of 19! She wrote her ravishing song-cycle ‘Clearings in the Sky’ while in Rome, shortly before the outbreak of WWI. One of the most promising and gifted composers of her time, she died of tragic illness at the age of 24. Her visionary songs capture the intoxicating sensuality of late Impressionism. Featuring the angelic soprano Lauren Snouffer, singing in French with English supertitles. With Ravel’s chamber-music masterpiece, the Trio for Piano and Strings.
